Colour, feel and shape – style trends and culture, design challenges and synergy
Day 1 Tuesday 22 June 2010 - Morning session

Moderator – Jaime Moreno, CEO, Mormedi

10.30
New interiors for a changed world: developing synergies between the engine and the materials for a better travel experience
Mormedi – Jaime Moreno, CEO
The automotive industry has embraced new technologies to improve engines, but the interiors remain pretty much the same. It is hard to find examples of the synergies between new materials and technologies developed into a new concept of interior. We need to break with the old forms and open the car interior to new ways of understanding the travel experience, which should be more user-centred and more flexible to suit the needs of a more demanding public.

11.00
Perceptive interface of interior vs. exterior efficiency through design
IAAD and Italdesign – Giugiaro – Carlos Sanchez, transportation design department coordinator and assistant chief designer
This review will discuss the analysis of the user interaction and relationship through interior design and styling language, form, texture and colour. It will also cover objective-subjective assessment and awareness of the efficiency of different spaces and environments conceived through modern trends in automotive design.

11.30
Zero emissions: new design challenges – new design opportunities
Renault – Fabio Filippini, vice president interior design
This review will look at what zero emissions means for interior design. What does it mean for the end user (client) and what does it mean collectively (infrastructure, usage modes, etc.)?

12.00
New occupants packaging offers new experiences in the perception of interior space
PSA Peugeot Citroën – Amko Leenarts, responsable style intérieur Peugeot
The base contract of good interior design becomes a more difficult task: more compact, more lightweight, more security and less expensive. How do we offer the client a new experience in space perception by playing with volume, materials and modularity?

Colour, feel and shape – modular vision, analysis, assessment and material design
Day 1 Tuesday 22 June 2010 - Afternoon session

14.00
Premium, fashion or function? The semantics of interiors
Coventry University – Nick Hull, senior lecturer
Perceived interior quality is vital for success in the marketplace. But how can design teams measure the semantics of the design and identify a unique brand fingerprint? And, with a variety of new forms of information for the driver, how can the conventional values of design quality be communicated in future?

14.30
Sculptural artistry meets German precision – changing the face of Opel/Vauxhall interiors
Vauxhall/Opel Design – Stefan Arndt, chief designer Meriva Interior and Belinda Müller, assistant chief designer, Meriva Color & Trim
Interior designers share insights on the new Opel/Vauxhall interior design philosophy, including a look into current interior design development; colour and trim execution; how to achieve high-quality fit and finish; and a glimpse into the evolving trends of interior car design.

15.00
Mobile interior drive emotions – transportation interior design
Reutlingen University, School of Textiles & Design – Prof. Andrea Lipp and Prof. Michael Goretzky, transportation interior design programme
In a time of rapid technical advancement and increasing mobility, intelligent solutions in the automotive field will play a large role. The designer fulfils a key function in the development team, so in future transportation design education must focus on the development of a spectrum of capability that connects creative and technical competence with innovative ability, aesthetic reliability, customer orientation and communication capabilities.

15.30
Is white the new green?
Faurecia Innenraum Systeme – Thorsten Suess, manager - industrial design
In the past years the marketing colour of sustainability has been green. Nowadays this is increasingly changing to white and blue. This mindset change is influencing the automotive industry, but what does it mean? Apart from the current challenges, we will have the opportunity to ‘design’ the future. Let’s think about today and tomorrow, and discuss those thoughts in this presentation.

16.00
Material matters
Lear Corporation – Mara Ignatius, manager - colour and trim
The materials in an interior have the ability to captivate and motivate a consumer. Knowing the trends that shift into a range of products and drive consumers’ tastes is the key to directing differentiation and appeal within a vehicle.

16.30
Mobile seating in progression
Recaro GmbH & Co KG – Max Riedel, director engineering
This review by Recaro will discuss mega trends and their impact on innovations, with a look at the Recaro Pure Seating concept.
