Automotive Interiors Expo 2010

Automotive Interiors Expo Styling & Technology Studio

Call for Speakers

Throughout the three days of the event, a series of presentations and workshops will discuss future styling, trends and technical innovations. These sessions will drive and support the conference and exhibition. With this in mind the organisers are now calling for key speakers from all industry-leading OEMs, Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacturers, suppliers, research institutions and styling houses to propose suitable presentations for possible inclusion in the 2010 conference.

Presentations must offer an insight into new product design, service innovations or technological developments, or be based on an application story, working within one or more of the following session topic areas:

Colour, feel and shape. What will the next fashions be? What will next-generation customers want from their cars? What will the fashionable colours and textures be? How will materials evolve to create more comfort and durability?

Control stalks and switches. So far Mercedes, BMW and Volvo have been among the most inventive with their new takes on gearshifts, floating consoles and switchgear. But have the changes brought benefits? Has the interface become too complicated? What next? How can switchgear be improved and made more user friendly?

Connectivity. The use of computers and in-car entertainment is evolving. What are the next steps to realise better on-board entertainment, infotainment and connectivity? In-car WiFi and internet will be the next step. In addition to the electronic systems, how do we redesign interiors to give them more potential for family and business users?

Versatility. The estate car gave way to the people carrier and off-roader, but the truly versatile MPV is yet to be realised. How can seating become more versatile, interiors become more functional and true multi-purposefulness be developed?

Weight. The biggest issue that challenges transport designers and car companies. Accessorising brings weight. We discuss how to reduce it with new materials and lighter structures.

Displays and human interface. Many new technologies are entering the market, including lane-keeping support; collision avoidance and mitigation systems; adaptive cruise and speed control; semi-automatic driving; and driver monitoring systems. How do we best inform drivers with audible, visual and other warnings?

Safety. Airbags and restraints are becoming intelligent and adaptive. A review of next-generation systems and their implications for the interior as a whole.

Ageing populations. New challenges will be created by the largest growing community in Europe. How can car designers create added benefits for older drivers and passengers?

Supply chains. Car manufacturers are looking to improve supply chain management and efficiency. How will this affect the way they work in the future with major integrators and suppliers? How can suppliers work better within the total supply chain?

Subcontracting. As emerging markets become rapidly more sophisticated, what will this mean for component makers in Europe? How and with whom can they obtain the best benefits?
